As one of the 12 partners of ENFEM project, the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA) organized on Tuesday September 12, 2023, an event on the topic of “Diversity in the Workplace” at INNOVATHENS in Technopolis City of Athens. The project focuses on assisting the integration of female third-country nationals in local communities through processes of employability and entrepreneurship.
Bringing together different stakeholders
This Networking and Policy Uptake event took place after almost two years of the beginning of ENFEM project. In particular, representatives of International and Local Actors, Public Bodies, Civil Society Organizations, Businesses as well as the ENFEM partners attended the event. The aim of this meeting was to start a discussion around the way in which diversity can be integrated and consolidated in the fields of employment and entrepreneurship. During the project implementation – since December 2021 – various issues of integration of female third-country nationals in partner member countries and access to the labor market were identified.
Exchange of Practices
The event started with Melina Daskalaki, Special Advisor to the Mayor of Athens for Migrants and Refugees and President of the Reception & Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.A.D.A) giving a greeting speech. Continuing, representatives from ISCAP, the lead partners of ENFEΜ presented the research findings and ongoing activities of the project along with the visibility and empowerment of female third-country nationals. In the panel discussion, representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Caritas Hellas, METAdrasi and ActionAid Hellas gave various perspectives on how diversity is perceived as well as the good practices on assisting women of third countries observed in their organizations. Closing, a Mock Job Interview by a Recruitment and Career Consultant from ReGeneration took place. Participants were divided into groups of four and they were given roles to implement an interview of a female third-country national in a company. Hence, participants had the opportunity to understand the possible obstacles and marginalization that a woman third-country national may experience during her job search.
The Outcome
The event provided to all participants an opportunity to exchange experience in the fields of access of female third-country nationals to the labor market, entrepreneurship, social justice as well as practices that should be avoided and others that should be promoted during a job interview. Such exchange of knowledge gave the impetus for discussions about new practices and collaborations which could strengthen actions for the smoother integration of women of third countries in the labor market and their empowerment in the field of entrepreneurship.
